Access to Work Support Worker

Hours:  14 hours per week
Pay: £22,575 pa pro rata
Location: Based at our Byker Office, Newcastle upon Tyne

Skills for People is a well-established charity serving NE England that supports disabled people to speak up and take control of their lives.

We are recruiting a Support Worker (Access to Work) to work with a colleague in our team, based at our office in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne. The post is part time, to be worked over 3 or 4 days (to be negotiated between applicant and worker).

The Support Worker will work closely with our colleague to support him to work on a range of projects and with groups of people with learning disabilities who take part in our activities. We welcome applications from people with relevant personal experience.

Project Worker (Teesside)

Hours:  21 hours per week
Pay: £26,832 pa pro rata
Location: Home based, with travel across Redcar and Cleveland

Skills for People is a well-established charity serving NE England that supports disabled people to speak up and take control of their lives.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our successful Teesside team as a Project Worker, working with people who have a learning disability or are autistic. Our work champions the voices and rights of the people we work with and takes place in community venues, hospitals and other supported settings. The post is home based, working with a wide range of professionals from Skills for People, public and voluntary sectors.

We are looking for people who are passionate about the rights of disabled people, and have experience of working with people who experience disadvantage. You should have experience of working in the community, able to listen and communicate with a wide range of people.

Project Development Worker (Employment)

Hours:  35 hours per week. 5 days per week (Job share considered)

This is an exciting opportunity to join our successful Redcar and Cleveland team as a Project Development Worker, working with people who have a learning disability to gain employment or volunteering opportunities. To prepare people for employment or volunteering opportunities, through confidence building and up-skilling. This will help them develop job specific and employability skills, including communication, time management, problem solving and teamwork skills. Our work champions the voices and rights of the people we work with.

We are looking for people who are passionate about the rights of disabled people and have an understanding of people who experience disadvantage. You should have experience of working in the community, networking and able to engage with employers in the Redcar and Cleveland area.

Autism and Learning Disability Keyworker

Hours:  negotiable (Full and part time available)
Pay: £26,832 pa pro rata
Location: Home based with travel in and around North Cumbria and occasional North East regional travel required.
Duration: Permanent

We have an exciting opportunity to join a new team in a local charity, working in new ways, to ensure children / young people who have a learning disability, or are autistic receive the right support, when their mental health means they are at risk of hospital admission; and to support their families.

About You

You will feel passionate about the rights of children, young people and their families; and enjoy working closely with them to ensure they get the support they need. You will need an understanding of education, health and care services, relevant law and guidance, and feel confident about liaising with a wide range of colleagues. You will be comfortable working face to face and virtually.

Trustees

Skills for People is recruiting new trustees.  This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive difference by joining an organisation that:

  • Has supported disabled people and their families across the North East for 40 years
  • Has disabled people at the heart of its work and its team
  • Works to protect human rights and improve the world, alongside disabled people and their families, colleagues in health, social care and the community and charity sector

As a trustee/company director, you will commit around 30 hours over a year, to work as part of our board to oversee the running of the charity. This rewarding role offers the chance to make connections, and develop your skills and knowledge.

Skills for People is a charitable company. Trustees have limited liability, which means they are not personally liable for company debts or financial losses. Expenses are paid.

Previous board/trustee experience is not necessary. We welcome applications from anyone, aged 16 or over.

We are particularly keen to have applications from people who have experience of one or more of the following, but would be happy to hear from anyone who may be interested.

  • Finance
  • Business skills (HR, law, marketing, digital)
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Health and social work/social care
  • Relevant personal lived experience
