Trustees
Skills for People is recruiting new trustees. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive difference by joining an organisation that:
- Has supported disabled people and their families across the North East for 40 years
- Has disabled people at the heart of its work and its team
- Works to protect human rights and improve the world, alongside disabled people and their families, colleagues in health, social care and the community and charity sector
As a trustee/company director, you will commit around 30 hours over a year, to work as part of our board to oversee the running of the charity. This rewarding role offers the chance to make connections, and develop your skills and knowledge.
Skills for People is a charitable company. Trustees have limited liability, which means they are not personally liable for company debts or financial losses. Expenses are paid.
Previous board/trustee experience is not necessary. We welcome applications from anyone, aged 16 or over.
We are particularly keen to have applications from people who have experience of one or more of the following, but would be happy to hear from anyone who may be interested.
- Finance
- Business skills (HR, law, marketing, digital)
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
- Health and social work/social care
- Relevant personal lived experience

Project Support Worker
This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing Tyneside Adults team and help people with learning disabilities make a difference in their lives. Each day is different but extremely rewarding.
The Project Support Worker works across a range of projects supporting the delivery of our services, in partnership with our Project Workers and other team members. They will help our team by providing practical support when needed. They will be expected to support individuals and groups of people, under the guidance of a Project Worker.
This post is part-time at 21 hours per week, working flexibly across 4 days per week. In particular, they will work 14 hours per week working with 2 self-advocates with a learning disability or who are autistic, who are employed as Community Connectors, supporting them to carry out their roles. They will also work 7 hours per week supporting groups.
The post holder may work on more than one project at once, and on different projects over time.
We hope that this post will allow the post holder to develop their skills, knowledge and experience, with a view to possible career development.
Hours: 21 hours per week (over 4 days)
Pay: £22,575 pa
Location: Byker Office, Newcastle upon Tyne
