Travelling with Confidence – New project to help people with learning disabilities travel launches today

Motability Foundation logoWe are excited to share news about Travelling with Confidence, a new project funded by the Motability Foundation. The project will help people with learning disabilities in the North East and Cumbria travel more easily and enjoy new opportunities.

The project is a team effort between six local charities: Your Voice Counts who are the lead, Adapt North East, Bridge Creative, Darlington Association on Disability, People First, and Skills for People.

The project will give people with learning disabilities special travel training to help them feel more confident. Some people will become Travel Buddies, who can help others learn how to travel safely. Others will become Travel Champions, who will work with transport companies to make travel better for everyone.

Many people with learning disabilities find travelling difficult or scary. This can stop them from doing things they enjoy, like seeing friends, getting a job, or going to activities. Travelling with Confidence will give them the tools and support they need to feel safe and independent when travelling.

Skills for People is proud to be part of this project and can’t wait to help people gain new confidence in travelling.
