Quality Checkers are people who:
- Are paid to check health and social care services.
- Have a disability or a mental health need, or are family carers.
- Have experience of using services themselves.
- Know what to ask and where to look to find answers.
What is a Quality Check?
A Quality Check is a good way to find out if a person’s support is good enough. A team of Quality Checkers meet with people with learning disabilities and/or autism who receive services to see what they feel about the support services they get. The Quality Checkers team is made up of people with learning disabilities and/or autism, family carers, working alongside a worker who supports them in their work.
Quality Checkers use a range of standards to check services.
Skills for People Quality Checkers team checks many different kinds of services including:
- Independent supported living
- Community services
- Health services
- Hospitals

Quality Checkers first started at Skills for People around 2006. The idea came from people with learning disabilities. Since then our Quality Checkers team has done many quality checks of services. We have trained hundreds of others to become Quality Checkers. There is now a national Association of Quality Checkers, and one of our Quality Checkers is the chairperson.
