At Skills for People, we have been listening carefully to what people are saying about the government’s Pathways to Work: Reforming Benefits and Support to Get Britain Working Green Paper. People have told us they are deeply concerned and worried about what these proposals could mean for them. We share those concerns.
The proposed changes could make it harder for disabled people to get the financial support they need. There are fears that people could be pushed into work that is unsuitable, unsafe, or damaging to their health and wellbeing. There is also real concern that the changes could lead to greater hardship and inequality, rather than helping people to live the good lives they deserve.
We were disappointed that accessible versions of the consultation documents were not published at the same time as the main Green Paper. Accessible versions are now available, and we welcome this, but it is vital that everyone has a fair chance to understand and respond to things that could significantly impact their lives.
Skills for People is supporting people to give their views and to share their concerns directly with the government. We will also be submitting an organisational response to the consultation.
If you would like to join us and make your voice heard, please get in touch. Everyone’s views matter.
